Sri Lanka's borders reopened to travelers worldwide on January 21, 2021. Essential conditions and safety measures have been put in place to welcome you with the utmost care and security.

Once you have contacted Mai Globe Travels, select your accommodations from the list of Safe & Secure Level 1 hotels with the assistance of your travel advisor.

You will need to travel within a health bubble for 14 days and 13 nights. Level 1 hotels are the only establishments where you can stay during the first 14 days (you may change hotels during your stay). You have a choice of different accommodation categories (ranging from 1 to 5 stars) throughout the country. You can move freely within the hotel and have access to all services and facilities such as swimming pool, spa, fitness center, etc. Note that there is no minimum stay requirement—you can choose to stay on the island for just a few days.

You will undergo a PCR test on the day of your arrival at the hotel; you are required to remain in your room until you receive your negative results (expect approximately 24 hours). A second test must be performed before the end of the 14-day health bubble period. Once you receive a negative result from this test, you are authorized to travel freely.

For children aged 2 to 12 years, a PCR test must be performed before the end of the 14-day health bubble period.

Once you have finalized and confirmed your stay, we will provide you with the hotel reservation reference numbers. Immigration will ensure you have a Level 1 reservation before approving your visa.

Pay for PCR Tests & Covid-19 Insurance

Before proceeding with your ETA visa application, you must ensure you have paid for your 2 PCR tests at 40 USD per test per person. You will also need to pay for Covid-19 insurance at 12 USD per person. You can settle these services (PCR tests and insurance) through our agency. A mobile application will soon be made available for this purpose.

Request Your ETA Visa

ETA visa fees are 35 USD per adult and free for children under 12 years old. For nationals of SAARC countries, the visa is 20 USD per adult. Please note: the ETA visa is non-refundable and non-transferable to another person. Additionally, be careful when entering your personal information—no errors will be tolerated.

Book Your Flights

Once you have obtained your visa, you can proceed to the next step: book your flights! Proof of your flight reservations and your visa will certainly be requested by the airline. When you go through Sri Lankan customs, you will need to complete and submit an arrival form and a health declaration form (new procedure due to the Covid-19 pandemic). If you have not already received these forms, you will find them in the airport arrival hall. If you are vaccinated, remember to bring your vaccination certificate (in English).

Note: A negative PCR test is mandatory for all travel to Sri Lanka, to be performed less than 72 hours before your scheduled departure time from your country of origin.

Visa Validity

The visa is valid for 180 days from the date of issue and allows for double entry with a maximum stay of 30 days total. The authorities will send your Sri Lanka ETA by email. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your intended entry date. Please note that you cannot obtain a new ETA visa while you are in Sri Lanka, whether your current visa is valid or expired. However, an ETA visa can be extended at the Immigration Office, which is located near Colombo.

Useful Tips and Information

It is highly recommended to photocopy all your important documents such as your passport, plane tickets, insurance policy, driving license, etc., and keep the originals in a secure location. This will save you considerable inconvenience in case of loss or theft.
